Spiritual Exploration

Jewell supports students throughout their faith journey. Rooted as a founding principle of the College, spiritual exploration remains a core value at Jewell and an important part of growth and self-discovery.

In the classroom, the Sacred and Secular level of the Core Curriculum and associated Capstone courses help students consider the implications of faith in their own lives and explore the impact of religion on the world. Outside the classroom, ethical and spiritual dimensions are reflected in many facets, including Chapel and worship, campus lectures, cultural programming, service-learning, internships and organizations that serve students of various traditions. Based on the College’s foundation as a Christ-centered institution of higher learning, spiritual exploration at Jewell is inclusive of all faiths and rooted in an interdisciplinary approach. Students who pursue spiritual exploration at Jewell gain a foundation for becoming engaged servant-leaders who serve the common good, stand up for social and racial justice, promote peace and pursue lives of purpose.

New Expressions of Faith Life at Jewell

The Center for Faith and Culture launched in fall 2021 to foster the exploration of faith through curriculum, dialogue and workshops for the Jewell Family and the broader community. Dr. Brendon Benz has been named the founding Theologian-in-Residence and will lead the Center and other faith initiatives. As an important complement to the Center, Jewell will reinvigorate Campus Ministry, providing more opportunities for students to explore and express their faith.
